The Sherman Brothers, Julie Andrews, and Dick Van Dyke
I love special features. Not the special features your thinking of. Yes, I do love your eyes. They truly are special. BUT I'm talking about special features on DVDs. I would honestly like to watch the behind the scenes of the movie even more than the acctual movie.
A couple days ago I just had this strange urge to watch Marry Poppins. I have loved that show forever. I watched it so many times when I was a youngin that it is now engraved into my brain. I could quote the whole thing. Seriously. I'm not joking here. Anyway.. and after I finished it I watched the full hour Supercalifragalisticexpealidocious: Making of Marry Poppins. And oh boy was it worth my time. They interview the Sherman Brothers, Julie, Dick Van Dyke... basically the whole crew!! Richard Sherman (who wrote the music.. gosh those guys are brilliant.) told this really nice story about Walt Disney. He said that Walt absolutely loved the song Feed the Birds. And on a friday night Walt would call the Shermans into his office and just say "Play it for me." And they would play and sing Feed the Birds for him. When they were done Walt would say "Have a good weekend boys!" and that was that. I don't know why but for some reason I just love that.
Oh, and commentaries. I love commentaries... and might I add biographies? I do enjoy a good biography. I recently read Julie Andrew's biography and it was superb. She is probably my idol. I realize that idol kind-of seems like I am upsessesed (or is it ubsessed?) with her. I'm not a creeper stalker, but seriously I love that woman. One of the best books I ever read was a behind-the-scene-ish book about the Sound of Music called Forever Liesel. It was written by Charmian Carr who played Liesel in the show (shocking I know... you couldn't even tell from the title...). That book is a gem. There are beautiful pictures, stories, and memoirs of the movie. I enjoy that. I really do.
Well, you'll have to excuse me, but I have to go write a report for World Civ. Due tomorrow. Haven't started. Adios!
Hey! What a photo up there eh?
