"Where have you been lately Jane? Not just neglecting the blog, I'd hope...."
Jane: "Nope! I took a ten day trip to the South."
And let me tell you, it was a great time. I'm pretty sure that this post could be realllllly long. But I'm just going to give you some fast highlights, and post some sa-weet pictures.
Ok, so as you all know I love the airport. But for some reason or other I wasn't LOVING it as much this trip. My family can attest to that. I was really nervous for take off, and I don't know, it was just weird.
Anyway, so we flew into D.C. where my Autie Julie lives. We did the usual in D.C. for a few days. Ya know, Mount Vernon, Natural History Museum, American History Museum, National Art Gallery, Ford's Theatre, and we took a really great tour of the Capitol. My dad's cousin, Noelle, works there so she was able to show us some really neat stuff that we wouldn't have normally seen. (I still have my candy from the desk that Obama used to sit in... ya... cool... ). And so on...
Then we got a rental car (with a Texas license plate might I add) and we drove to Charlottesville, Virginia. There we saw Monticello (which I liked better than Mount Vernon), and we walked around the University of Virginia Campus.
THEN we went to Outer Banks, North Carolina and stayed in a wonderful beach house called "Endless Horizons" (golden right?). Let me tell you, the horizons WERE endless! We went to the beach, ate some crab, yadda yadda yadda.
Next stop was Florence, South Carolina. A little town about 20 minutes from Florence is where my dad served his mission 30 years ago. It's called Hartsville. As we were driving my dad was telling us about his mission, and it was really fun. We were on a quest to find a few members that he had know named Jerry, Terry, and Shug (like Sugar... AH HA. Needless to say I called everyone "Shug" the rest of the trip). Anyway, after going around town and taking photos at all the places he remembered we found Terry's husband Ricky who my dad had baptized. He was really funny.
Then we went to Charleston to meet Terry. She was visiting her daughter in Charleston, so we just stooped by. (P.S. during this whole time I was talking in a fake southern accent, that wouldn't go away. My family got really annoyed... ha ha....) She was great, and said classic lines such as "Oh, we just pickin". I loved it!
Ooook. On to Charleston we go. Charleston was probably my favorite. It was really really really cute. We spent two days there and ya know, went to Fort Sumner, ate a really good "southern breakfast", went to an African Pentecostal Church (let me tell you, that was an experience. We were the ONLY white people... I was a little uncomfortable to say the least.), and we took a tour of the Boone Plantation. Really interesting, and really pretty. There was a Gullah presentation that was my favorite.
ON TO SAVANNAH, GA. River walk, Savannah's candy kitchen, talked to homeless guy (well, he lives in a tent...) named Chris, went to the beach, sweated our brains out, etc. etc. Then we drove to Atlanta and flew out there. THE ATLANTA AIRPORT IS HUGE. also, I was sitting in the middle on the plane, and I was feeling really sick. Then, of course, the guy next to me orders a beer! IT SMELLED AWESOME! and It made my stomach FEEL SO MUCH BETTER! NOT!
Ok sorry this is getting a little borrrrring. I just got home from trek, and i'm a tad tired to say the least.
Anyway, it was a really fun time! I learned something though. I'm a UTAH girl. I just love Utah. The weather is beautiful and it's just a nice place to live. It's green and so pretty here, and I don't think us Utahans notice it enough. OH UTAH. People working together, UTAH what a great place to be. (I had to through that in there).
Now some pictures for your enjoyment! (they are out of order, and you may notice outfit repeats because I'm a horrible packer...)
